Surface Decorating for Pottery

What is Surface Decorating for Pottery?

Surface decorating in pottery involves applying various techniques to enhance the visual appeal and texture of ceramic pieces.  This can include painting, glazing, carving, adding textures, and using tools to create patterns.

These methods not only add aesthetic value but can also contribute to the pieces functionality and uniqueness.

Here are some Surface Decorating ideas…

Buble Glazing

Other Surface Decorating: Banding, Sgraffito, Carving, Underglaze Decals (commercial and home-made), Wax Resist, Paper Resist & Mishima…

The Arts House is offering throughout the summer, one hour workshops teaching a new technique each time.  You will be able to watch it done, then try out the technique on a sample pottery piece (provided) before you leave the workshop.

Extra Bonus… We are offering the workshops before an Open Studio time slot, giving you the option to stick around after the workshop and practice the new technique on your own.  Open Studio is normally $25 for 3 hours using the studio and all the tools.  When you sign up for a Surface Decorating workshop, the Open Studio fee is only $20.
