Antigonight: Art After Dark

Antigonight: Art After Dark has been Antigonish Culture Alive’s most recognizable and popular outdoor, public art event since 2010. The festival provides an opportunity for artists to display interactive artworks spanning multiple mediums, such as dance, theatre, music, sound art, and installation art, which intend to celebrate the community-minded roots of rural Nova Scotia and the artists who make this region home. Exhibits and performances are found on the street, sidewalks, in storefronts, alleyways, and other nooks and crannies of downtown Antigonish. This year our festival's theme is BEYOND and will take place on September 15 & 16. It is FREE, open to all, and accessible by wheelchair and stroller. Antigonight acknowledges the over-representation of White, cisgender, able-bodied voices in the arts. We prioritize and encourage perspectives, work, and input from individuals who belong to Nova Scotia (Mi'kma'ki/L'nuewa'ki)'s marginalized and underrepresented communities.

Come say hi and learn more at our booth at the Antigonish Art Fair! We will have colouring sheets available for kids and adults alike!

Pat Lohrenz

Pat Lohrenz is an interpretive landscape artist living and painting in Nova Scotia. Teaching experience includes pouring workshops using fluid acrylic paints and collage. Represented by galleries in Nova Scotia. Works in private collections in Canada, US and Europe.

“I loosely consider myself an interpretive landscape artist. Themes that interest me include views of land and water, open fields, marshes, woodlands, shorelines, cliffs, and skies. My mediums include fluid acrylics, metallic paints, acrylic inks, and collage materials to create texture and movement. Inspiration, imagination and intuition shape the creative process but the finished pieces speak for themselves.”

Kathi Ryan

My love of fabric and color is life-long and for a few years now I have explored different methods of using batik fabric to create images meant to inspire and intrigue. I look forward to sharing new work at this year's art fair.

Katrina Paruch

Katrina has been sewing for years and more recently discovered a passion for the art of quilting. She combines traditional skills and techniques with modern design and a touch of whimsy to create pieces that are unique and sometimes unexpected. Katrina currently makes her home in Cape Breton but dreams of moving to a farm in East Hants where she can grow her own food and raise chickens and Highland cattle. Katrina business name is KP Creative.

Sophia Lawrence

My name is Sophia Lawrence (she/her). I am a queer visual artist, writer, and youth-educator from rural L'nuewa'ki (Antigonish), Nova Scotia.

Some of you may remember my work from my small business Marigold Studio. In my early teens I began making and selling greeting cards at local markets and street fairs under the name "Sophie's card Studio". After a few years the name changed to Marigold Studio. In high school I began designing more products with my art on them. I expanded into clothing, tote bags, pin-back buttons and more, and I was regularly selling my wares at Farmers Markets and Craft Shows. Over the years, Marigold Studio continued to evolve as I developed new products and designs. When I completed my BFA at Mount Allison University, I decided I wanted to transition to making and selling work as myself, Sophia.
